The Technology

Our unique architecture means that forensic imaging does not take place over a network. Regardless of the software used, speed of imaging is governed by the POD hardware, not the network connection or the remote user’s hardware.

Remote users can disconnect from PODs and leave processes – such as imaging – running. The standard POD is configured to provide optimum performance in most circumstances.

The Software

FIMS is a web application that lies at the heart of the Remote Forensics solution and acts as a bridge between the case manager, the forensic analyst and the POD. It is a comprehensive forensic case management tool.

It brokers connections, controls accesses, records actions and provides reporting. FIMS consists of both hardware and software, supplied and configured by Evidence Talks.

FIMS is supplied either as a ‘hosted’ service by Evidence Talks – which is available to the client securely via the internet – or as an ‘in-house’ solution, with the hardware and software configured by Evidence Talks prior to delivery.

It can be placed on an intranet or the Internet and is accessed via HTTPS. Application vulnerability testing has shown FIMS to a robust and secure application. It's worth noting that FIMS does not store any data from the media under examination, it is a case management system which handles the relationships between analysts, case managers, Pods and 1st Responders. Although very secure in its standard form, connection to FIMS can be secured to Government approved standards.

The Hardware

The standard Evidence Talks Remote Forensics POD comprises three core elements.

The POD server
The heart of the system, this 1U high-end server is configured with Windows 2003 Professional and has twin 3Ghz+ Xeon processors, 2Gb RAM and a 72Gb hard disk for OS and internal use.

The disk enclosure
Comprises two removable hard disk bays, one write-protected and one read/write. These are fitted with removable disk caddies to accept 3.5” PATA, SATA and 2.5” laptop drives.

The POD Access Device (PAD)
Built into the Disk Enclosure, this component controls security & communications
